Your Cake

THE CAKE IS THE SWEETEST END TO YOUR SPECIAL DAY. YOU MAY CHOOSE A FAVOURITE FLAVOUR FOR THE WHOLE CAKE OR HAVE A DIFFERENT FLAVOUR FOR EACH TIER, SO THAT GUESTS CAN CHOOSE.

It is very important to us that your cake be exactly what you want, for this reason we can only accept limited orders for each day. May to September gets very busy so we suggest securing your date with us as early as possible as we work on a first come, first served basis.

We always offer open and honest advice on our cakes, we often receive enquiries for cakes that are inappropriate for the hot, humid weather in Cyprus. Whilst we want your cake to be exactly what you want, we also want you and your guests to enjoy looking at and eating your cake; so when, from experience, we know something will not work, it is our duty of care to tell you and give you alternative suggestions, rather than provide the cake regardless.

Bespoke Design

There are numerous ways we get inspiration for our cake designs. We like to make each cake unique and personal to our customers.

Some couples come to us with a design they love and ask us to recreate something similar. Others want something completely new and different.

Using the design and decoration features of your day, we can provide a unique design concept just for you. The more information we can get about you, your style, the theme of your day and what you want from your special cake, helps us get to know you better and design something really special.

We regularly deliver across all of Cyprus to prestigious hotels, stylish wedding venues, intimate restaurants and private villas. We work personally with our couples to ensure that their individual expectations are met every step of the way. Our aim is to produce unique and meaningful celebration cakes that are delicious in taste and texture as well as being visually beautiful.

Designing Your Wedding Cake

The cutting of the wedding cake is the first task of a new husband and wife

Your wedding cake stands as the centrepiece of your wedding reception and should ‘wow’ your guests.

As the centrepiece of your day, it should match in style and theme. Love Island Cakes will be delighted to create the cake that is just right for you.

Tips for choosing the right wedding cake

1. Go For Height!

Even for small and intimate wedding parties, stacked wedding cakes have become very popular. By providing a little extra height, the cake has more presence, more ‘wow’ and represents a traditional wedding cake, as opposed to a celebration cake.

We can provide smaller cakes that still give height – some serving as little as 16 portions – meaning you are not left eating cake for days but can still have a beautiful, elegant cake design.

Many of our cake stands also help to provide height, we have numerous pedestal stands to give the cake an extra 6-8 inches height from the cake table.

Even for moderately tall Brides and Grooms, the extra height in a cake means that you are not bending to cut your cake and can be photographed in the best possible pose.

2. You need lots of 'side'

Celebration cakes should be deep and in proportion to their height. You can’t compare wedding cakes with ‘ordinary’ or ‘tea-time’ cakes. A good cake designer will create a cake that has plenty of ‘side’ as opposed to ‘top’. That’s because the cake as a whole is viewed from an angle, not from overhead.

3. Consider when and where you are going to cut your cake

The wedding season in Cyprus is usually April-October, the temperature could be anything from 20°c up to 40°c. The classic English style wedding cake copes really well in the heat, coated in sugarpaste or royal icing, they can be left on display far longer than a buttercream, chocolate or fondant coated cake.

On the subject of buttercream, whilst we all love buttercream swirls on cupcakes, they will not last long in the heat, melted buttercream puddles are not particularly palatable so consider an alternative. Sugar paste tops, domed cupcakes or even a meringue swirl can be designed and decorated to match your theme and style.

We can offer a buttercream or semi naked finish for your cake but do strongly recommend a limited display time and where possible, refrigeration between display and serving to your guests later.

THE BUDGET

TAILOR YOUR CAKE TO SUIT YOUR EVENT OR BUDGET

Size of wedding cake

Having feasted on the wedding “breakfast” your guests probably won’t want a big wedge of cake. Let us know about your requirements so that we can recommend something right for you. You may not want piles of leftover cake (although many do!) for the following days. Some designs may require more cake than you actually need – so if you’re on a tight budget, make sure you let us know. We can supply ‘dummy’ cakes to display a larger cake for a smaller wedding party. Whilst this may not give the best value for money (as you can’t eat the artificial tier) it can save unwanted waste where a larger cake is preferred.

Wedding cake portions

Whilst a square cake will provide more portions than a round cake, it is not significantly more. We can provide you/your planner/venue with a cutting guide to get the optimum number of portions from any shaped cake.

Remember that heavy fruit cakes have smaller portion sizes than a sponge or Madeira cake, but they’ll be more expensive due to the additional ingredients and alcohol.

We can provide quotes based on ‘small’ and ‘generous’ portions; our ‘small’ portion is 1″x1″x the depth of the cake (2.5cm x 2.5cm), a’generous’ portion is 2″x1″x the depth of the cake (5cm x 2.5cm). The height of a cake depends on the width and design, however a ‘standard’ height cake is usually between 3-4″ (8-10cm).

Decoration

The more intricate and complicated the decoration, the more your wedding cake will cost. Having a minimalist design can help keep costs down. Using fresh or silk flowers are less expensive than having them handmade in sugar. Of course, there are health and hygiene considerations when putting fresh flowers on your cake, but we can overcome these or give advice on more practical options

How To Order

FROM AFAR.

A large proportion of our wedding cakes are ordered from abroad, by couples travelling to Cyprus for their destination wedding. Therefore most of our consultations take place through emails and telephone calls. This gives you the opportunity to email and share pictures, links, files and Pinterest boards with us to show as much as you like of your planning.

LOCALLY OR ON A VISIT

If you live in Paphos or are intending on a “planning trip” you can book an appointment to visit our cake studio in Kissonerga where we have cake designs on display and would be happy to feed you samples of our cakes, preserves and buttercreams whilst chatting through your plans and ideas for your cake.

DEPOSIT

If you would like to secure your date with us, you are welcome to do so by paying a €50 deposit through our website or in person at our shop in Kissonerga. This will secure the booking for your day. We will only accept a limited number of bookings for any day so that we can give real attention and care to each and every cake.

PAYMENT

Final payment is made shortly before delivery of your cake. If you would like to pay by card or bank transfer, this is due two weeks ahead of delivery. For local Paphos deliveries, you are welcome to visit us in the week prior to your event (another opportunity to eat some cake?) to make payment. If you do not have transport, we can arrange to meet you at your accommodation.
